Many people have asked how they call follow my experience in Ghana. I'm hoping this blog will be a good way for everyone to read about my journey.

Nothing too exciting to report....

It's been a few days since I last wrote. I finally got to go back to school today and it was so awesome to see all the sweet children. It was quite the adventure getting there tho :) My neighbor Kwame walked me to get a car this morning. I assumed that he told them where I was going...but I assumed wrong :) I noticed that we weren't going the way I normally go so I asked the girl in the car. She didn't speak much english so it was difficult to communicate with her. She told me to get out where she did and I wasn't sure where we were. She pointed and said to walk down the road. I could tell that it was possibly going to rain but at that point it was just drizzling a little bit. I called Geoff to tell him that I was lost and he put one of the teachers on the phone. I finally found someone to give my phone to so that I could get directions. The man was very nice and found me a car to take me to school. By that time, it was DOWN POURING! Not even close to a little drizzle. It was bad. I finally got in my car, got to school and was walking up the hill. shoe broke :) Oh what a morning. I was only a little ways from school so I just had to laugh about it. It was still raining pretty hard when I got to the school. All the kids came up and gave me big hugs as soon as I walked in the door. I absolutely loved it :) I let my sister know that I broke my shoe and she had Kwame bring me a new pair. It was very sweet of him. Friday is movie and game day at school so we didn't do a whole lot. It was still a really fun day tho :) I was so happy to be back at school with all of the children. We danced, played some kickball and catch and tried to watch a movie but the TV overheated. Oops. We will be sewing bags next week. I'm hoping to bring a few home for some of my friends and family. Hmm...what have I been doing over the past few days? It doesn't seem like much because I've been trying to get better. Wednesday night I met up with my doctor to talk about some ideas for services that might be useful at his clinic. We went to Sizzler and got pizza, french fries and ice cream. By far the most American food I've had since I've been here. It was all delicious. I had a great chat with Andrew about some possibilities of some social work jobs here. I definitely have to come home for a while but who knows, maybe Ghana is where I'm meant to be. We shall see :) He told me that he could help me get established, get me an office and I could form a team to travel around to the different cities to work in different clinics. It would mostly be doing counseling with the children, giving resources to the parents and doing some community outreach education on reporting child abuse. Definitely my passion. Yesterday I went into town and had lunch with Patrick at Oasis. It was nice to have lunch by the water. I just can't get enough of the ocean. We had a really great chat. He told me about a business that he used to have. He sold flip flops.  A few months ago, his business collapsed. He is the kind of guy that will do anything for anyone, even when he doesn't have anything. He's always willing to help others before himself and when it comes to business, that just doesn't work. He let too many of his friends buy with "credit" and they never paid him back. I asked him why he never shared that with me and he said that he was embarrassed. Maybe I shouldn't write about it on here, not sure he would appreciate it. He had to borrow money to start up his business, he made enough money to pay the person back and was doing well with his business. He tried to be a good friend and ended up losing out in the end. He knows he made some mistakes and knows that he will do better when he gets his business back again. Problem is, he needs about 400 cedi to get started again. He gets very upset about the money and it makes me feel a bit helpless :( I'm sure he will find a way tho. I know he is a hard worker. Things are so different here....but still so much the same. Last night I just hung out with my family. It was a lot of fun. I got a few of the dresses out and we gave them to some of the girls around our home. We had a lot of laughs and it was so fun :) I really really love my sister. We get along so well and are always having fun. After I had dinner, I went to meet up with Geoff and some of the other volunteers. They were having drinks but I had my orange juice :) I'm on my antibiotics for my laryngitis. I'm still not feeling 100% so I'm trying to be responsible and get better :) Thank you for all of the sweet get well messages!I had planned to visit Alex this weekend but it just didn't end up working out. I am pretty bummed because I was looking forward to seeing her. I will see her next weekend tho :) I think I'm going to be traveling tomorrow to Winneba. Not really sure where it is or what is there but I'm going with Kwame. That's his home town and he wants to take me there. I just want to get out of Cape Coast a bit more. I haven't been able to travel nearly as much as I would like to and my time is winding down. I think we are going to go see the waterfall and the monkey sanctuary in the next few weeks. I think it's time for my afternoon nap. It's Friday and although I didn't do much all week, I'm really exhausted. Not sure I'll make it out to do anything tonight. Patrick is performing at Oasis tomorrow night so I'm sure I'll be going there. Love and miss you all :)
