Fundraising Letter

Asking for money is never easy, but I wrote a letter and sent it out to friends, collegues, and family! There is also a fundraisor in the works where musicians and artists are donating their time and energy to help me out. My goal is to raise money to purchase art supplies, adaptive equipment, and therapeutic tools for the CARE organization in Belize. Ill be bringing my Art Therapy tools and techniques to them in November.

Dearest Family and Friends,

I am writing to you today because in 5 short months I’ll be embarking on an exciting new journey!  A journey that I hope will further my personal growth and development as an Art Therapist and Humanitarian.   A few months ago, I was doing an internet search for Art Therapy volunteer opportunities in the US and abroad.  While searching, I came across a site for  I quickly learned that they are a volunteer organization which offers programs in 14 different countries in Latin America, Asia, and Africa.  Their mission is to “promote social and economic development, empower communities, conserve the environment, and cultivate educated compassionate global citizens.  Through partnerships with sustainable community initiatives, they bring people together to work side-by-side while sharing perspectives and fostering cultural understanding.”

As you know, my background is working with individuals with disabilities as a Counselor and Art Therapist.  To my delight, they had a placement in Punta Gorda, Belize working with the CARE organization, a non- profit organization that serves children with various physical, mental, and social disabilities.  Over a two week period in the beginning of November, it is my hope to work with this organization, bringing them just some of the skills and techniques I have learned from working over the past 7 years at Hazelwood Center.  My duties will include visiting children with various disabilities in their homes around Belize and helping them adapt their environment to better serve them.  This may include offering Art Therapy workshops, training on how to use certain adaptive communicative and therapeutic equipment, or educating the families and communities on how to better integrate the child into their community.  They are even offering me a small stipend to purchase any materials or adaptive equipment I might need while there.  This could include sensory toys, books, art supplies, and communication devices.  To bring these things to a community that doesn’t have such advantages is truly a blessing.  In addition to the therapeutic services I can provide in Belize, my teaching skills will enable me to speak on global disability issues when I return to Kentucky.

ProWorld is a recognized leader in its field, sending hundreds of participants overseas every year. All ProWorld programs are run solely by volunteer contributions, and therefore each program has a fee.  The fee for this 2 week program, including all meals, lodging, travel medical insurance, funding of my project and in-country transportation, totals $1765 and does not include airfare to Belize ($600-$1000 USD).  To be able to go on this program, I need financial assistance, which I hope you can help provide.  Your support and the support of those you know, is hugely appreciated!  I look forward to sharing this extraordinary experience with you,, is my online travel Journal.  Here I’ll be sharing photos and thoughts before, during, and after the trip!  Should you have any questions about the volunteer program, please feel free to email me at  If you are interested in looking into the organization, ProWorld can be reached at 877-429-6753 or on the web,   The CARE Organization can be found at

Thank you for all your Love and Support!

Many Blessings,
