Finally i have made it to a computer! Whoosh it has been truly a busy week! I arrived last Friday night and have been running around ever since. The night that i arrived i was introduced to my host family, who i found out only speak in Spanish, and we talked for a little bit, asking each other questions and such. Travel Journal from Belize Punta Gorda, Belize | Mon Aug 08, 2011

I'm in a small village of 30 families called San Filipe staying with the Chos - Juan, Abelina, Henry and Lucresha, and helping to make chocolate masa (paste), powder and cocoa butter soap. The food Abelina prepares is all fresh and wonderful. There are dogs, chickens, ducks and pigs everywhere and the howler monkeys can be heard in the distance. Tomorrow I'll work on the farm with Juan. I'm sure …

Over the past four weeks the rest of the Rutgers group and I have gone on so many trips all over the state. From Monte Alban, to Teotitlán del Valle, Mitla, Tule, Puerto Escondido, among others. Yet, it feels like it was not enough time to see all the wonderful sights Oaxaca offers. I've found that Oaxaca is such a diverse state in Mexico that there's is always something new …

  • Service Learning: 2011: A taste of future

Travel Journal from Mexico Oaxaca, Mexico | Tue Jul 05, 2011

I can still remember the first orientation session with my professor, like it was yesterday. When we got accepted—the students that came from Rutgers—he explained what the purpose of the program was and the different options for volunteering placements ProWorld had. As soon as he talked about the clinics our group would work in I asked about HIV patients and whether any of the placements could give me the chance …
